Quick Access to National Academies Reports

Question:

Any idea how I can find this? All I need is the title page and page 63. Committee on Environmental Issues in Pacific Northwest Forest Management, Board on Biology, National Research Council, Environmental Issues in Pacific Northwest Forest Management (ISBN: 0-309-05328-5, 280 pages, 6 x 9, paperback (2000)).

Answer:

Because the patron had the ISBN it was easy to verify on our library catalog and on WorldCat that our library does not have this book, but 206 other libraries do. The WorldCat record had a link that read, "View eBooks from NetLibrary". Unfortunately clicking on that link resulted in a message that said, "This eContent is not included in your library's collection and is unavailable for viewing."

Plugging the ISBN into Google leads to the National Academies Press, which publishes the reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. NAP provides free page-by-page access in PDF format to all their books, including this one. Since the patron only needed two pages, those two PDF files were quickly download and sent to the patron.
